I'm going to be perfectly honest here. If you asked me when I was 19 years old what my life would be like "when I grew up", I would have told you something like this...
I would be married, and that someone would be rich. I always joked about finding myself a "rich husband", but...I was pretty much serious, lol!
I would live in a HUGE house.
I would drive a BMW.
I would travel to exotic places.
...the list goes on of those sorts of things.
At 32 years old, I can tell you my life doesn't look anything like that. I am much richer than I anticipated.
We watched this movie last night...

Have you seen it? It really reminded me how GRATEFUL I am for my husband, my kids, and the life that we have created together.
No, my house does not look like this:

In fact, this is my house:

It's not huge or luxurious. It's better...it's our home. It fits our family perfectly, it has everything and more we need, and we can AFFORD it!
This is not the car in my garage:

What IS in my garage I love more than I'd love that Beemer. It's a used Honda Odyssey full of carseats and kids, with cracker crumbs on the floor mats and finger smudges on the windows.
In order to have the life I thought I wanted, I'd probably have a husband who was gone ALL THE TIME working. Instead, I have a loving husband who's first priority is our family. He works petal-to-the-metal hard from 9-5, and the other hours of the day he spends taking care of and doting on us.

The truth is, I would probably be an anxious MESS if my life turned out the way I had once hoped. The more stuff you have, the more burdensome it all becomes. And its never enough. You always want more.
Jon and I have been incredibly blessed financially, because he does have a good job that he works really hard at. But we are also wise with our finances. Could we get a BMW if we wanted? Probably. Could we have a bigger house? Sure. But we don't because we so much more enjoy a life of simplicity. (And we live FAR from "simply" compared to MANY...we really DO have SO MUCH, but we don't live extravagantly.) We find freedom in our souls by living within our means.
So while watching that movie last night, I was reminded what the love of money, extravagant things, and maintaining an appearance does to the condition of people's hearts. I am SO thankful to have a husband who guides our family into having our priorities straight, and helps us lead a well-balanced life according to God's will for us. Our hearts are filled with peace and our home is filled with love!
