We're going on vacation!

Yay! We're headed to the beach next month for a few days of sunshine! We're going to Saugatuck, Michigan, which is in the lower left side of the state on Lake Michigan. We are going with my in-laws which is GREAT for several reasons. Here are a few...

1. Babysitters! Jon and I might even get to go out on a date! Plus, the more eyes on Mylo in an unfamiliar place, the better I'll feel. : )

2. One word....EUCHRE. We love to play euchre together.

3. They're just fun people to be around, and go on vacation with.

Our trip is in a month, and I of course have already started a list of what I need to bring. (I have done this my whole life...I know...CRAZY!) When I went to Brazil I think I started my list like 6 months in advance. And Jon packs the night before. ANYHOW...this will be our 2nd trip with Mylo. Our last one was to Nashville when he was 5 months. He was exclusively breastfeeding still at that point, and wasn't very mobile, so the things I need to bring are very different from what I need to bring this time.

So I need your help! I'd love to hear your suggestions about what has worked for you while traveling with your little ones.

So far my list contains Pamper's Pocket Bibsters (disposable bibs)...a tip I recently got from Suz's blog who just traveled with her 9 month old quadruplets!!! I'm also going to get some Little Swimmers for going in the pool and lake. I also need some sort of flotation device...my sister has something really cool I could borrow she said. Actually, I wish I could just take my sister along. She used to be a swim coach before she was a SAHM, so she's certified in every kind of aquatic emergency situation you can imagine! I wonder if she'd fit in my suitcase?

I need other suggestions too...maternity swim wear. Ughhh...it just shouldn't be. I have a maternity bathing suit, but I think I'd like the bottom part to have a LOT more coverage. (Can you wear pants in the pool?) Anyone know of a good place to find like a maternity suit with one of those SKIRT bottoms that won't cost me an arm and a leg? Or anyone have any suggestions of what YOU like to wear that was cute and made you feel comfortable and less like a whale?

Here's a recent shot of the ever-growing baby bump. In a month I'll look even bigger...definitely more like a whale and in need of as much coverage as possible.

Here's what I looked like last summer after having Mylo.

Totally kidding...don't I wish! This was over 5 years ago...pre-marriage and pre-baby! Oh, what marriage and kids'll do to one's body.

Wouldn't change it for anything though!! ; )

So send me all your traveling with a one year old / maternity swim wear suggestions! Can't wait to hear them!

When I travel I always take a familiar bed item for the kids. They of course have their blankies.. but I also take their fav. stuff toy (both our boys have one) as well as a BLANKET from their bed.. normally a throw. This way they have a sense of security laying in a new bed.. the throws have the scent of their home on them.. it really does comfort them.

I also take a baby monitor. Just incase I want to put them to bed and sit outside the room or something while they sleep... (never will I leave them but if im sitting out side on a balcony or something) I dont have a problem with that.

Take a cooler so you can pack some food.. i always bring extra milk for the boys on trips.

The DVD player for Caleb HEHE

a bag with a few toys (nothing to big) - few books -

a night light

and of course you'll bring clothes im sure...

Hope that helps :-)

One thing that I didn't think about until it was too late was...bug spray! We took Gracie to the Outer Banks when she was 1 1/2 and the poor girl got eaten alive on our sunset walk. So needless to say...it was a quick trip to Food Lion for bug spray and some borrowed benadryl from my sister-in-law. ;)

Don't know how your son- or you- feel about sand, but if he's going to be digging in it, bring some Bag Balm. I'm not kidding! We went to Florida when our son was almost 2 and he loved the sand, but it didn't love him back- TERRIBLE chafing in the diaper area!! Bag Balm took care of it pretty quickly.

Motherhood has really cute suits for under $30..mostly tankini suits with pretty full-coverage bottoms.

But being early in your pregnancy, you might be able to get away with a non-maternity suit. J.C. Penney's has some really cute skirted tankini suits. That's my plan...just a couple sizes bigger than regular to get me thru the early part of the summer.

Yay for your summer trip. I'm sure Mylo will have a blast.

Sunscreen and hats for little Mylo's face protection. Life vest for him in the water if you don't have floatie ring. Sand toys, shovel, bucket, etc. Cover up for his back and arms if it gets too much sun or a plain old t-shirt will work. We went to Mexico last fall with three kids and of course it was easier without diapers, bottles, etc. but remembering everything is hard. I'd bring a bag with snack in it also. Have fun!

I don't have any travel advice. I am still trying to figure it all out. But, I do the same things with lists. I also pack a couple of days before.
