Not only are all these people incredibly gifted and anointed musicians...

They are also incredibly gracious musicians for putting up with me on my very first weekend of playing piano on worship team!
I have to say that it went better than I expected. Most of it I was really focused on making sure I was playing the right chords, staying on rhythm with the rest of the band, and not TOTALLY flubbing things up. But more than I expected, it was filled with very intimate moments of worshiping the Lord.
Let me give you a bit of background as to why this past weekend was so meaningful to me. (Not that its really that interesting to you. This is more so I have this all written down to look back at one day. And besides, its always fun to see what God is doing in peoples' lives, right?)
I've been involved in music since middle school. Choir, a couple years of piano lessons, etc. And upon starting to go to church later on in high school, I sang on the worship team there. Over the years of doing that, God has grown me from a mere musician to a worshiper. I have a burning passion for worshiping the Lord in any capacity, and I feel incredibly honored to serve other followers of Jesus by leading them in worship.
A few years back, our church held a conference led by a big-time Vineyard pastor and worship leader. At that conference, in the middle of worship, this guy came over to me and said God has a big calling on my life as a worship leader. Then later told our pastors to keep an eye on me to make sure that happens. Ha!
I put that on the shelf, because it just wasn't God's timing then for me to really pursue it. I was super pregnant at the time and my focus was fulfulling the calling God has on my life for my family. (WHOLE 'nother story there!) At that point I was still serving on worship team by singing, and leading worship in my small group.
Last summer, I felt the Lord pressing on my heart to start stepping out in the things He's called me to for worship. As funny as this sounds, I felt Him telling me to get a piano. That He was going to anoint me to play, (even though I hadn't even touched a piano in 13 years!) and that I would eventually lead a team by playing piano and singing.
When I blogged about getting a piano from Jon for our anniversary, it was so much more than him just getting me a gift. He was helping fulfill the calling God has for me. That alone is more valuable to me than the piano, but I'm not gonna lie, my piano is flippin' sweeeeet!
I practice everyday. I lovvvve it. I also love my little helpers and the, um... "harmonies" they add to my songs...

Trust me, there's tons of room for growth. I'd like to take some lessons in the near future. But I also know that God is keeping His promise by anointing my playing. I mean, I've only been playing for 3 months, and I just actually played along with an entire band WITHOUT totally messing things up. It was somewhat decent. And I gauge that by the fact that when I did mess up, I was able to quickly find my place again, and most importantly, the whole experience felt very worshipful.
So I am stepping out in faith to the things the Lord has called me to. This weekend was the beginning of my new journey. Its scary and exciting all at the same time. I can't wait to continue walking it out and see where the Lord takes me!
